**FEMALE BOARDING STAFF - ONE VACANT POSITION (LIVE-OUT)**

Part-time **live-out** position to commence end of August 2024

For one school year with the possibility of renewal

**Position Summary**:
The SJR Boarding Program exists to provide students with the unique opportunity to develop within a diverse, enriching and respectful community. Our dormitory serves as a real-life classroom where we strive to live out the SJR Vision, Mission and Values on a daily basis.
- Boarding staff are part of a team that fulfills a vital supervisory and pastoral role within a comfortable and respectful co-ed Grade 8-12 boarding environment. Boarding staff need to be compassionate, flexible, firm and forgiving “in loco parentis” professionals for the students. Boarding staff will help in the supervision of students living in boarding and assist in the organization and supervision of evening/weekend activities, daily evening study periods while also helping students develop soft life skills as part of our boarding life curriculum. Boarding staff act as positive role models for the students while upholding a responsible and positive system of discipline. The vacant position is a part-time, live-out role at the school during the academic year. This is a wonderful opportunity for new teachers, or those interested in the field, to formally develop expertise.

**Overall Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director of Boarding, boarding staff will:

- Help supervise and manage the expectations and goals of SJR’s Boarding Life Curriculum.
- Work on a rotational basis to supervise and manage a co-ed dormitory in the evenings after the school day and during weekends (including long weekends).
- Demonstrate willingness to work rotationally through a seven-day week duty roster.
- Plan and execute stimulating weekday evening & weekend programming which connects our boarders to the city of Winnipeg to provide cultural enrichment for them.
- Attend breakfast on a rotational schedule to supervise boarders and check the co-ed dormitory to ensure that boarders are up and ready for the day.
- Help our boarders maintain a balance and perspective in their lives by encouraging healthy lifestyle options.
- Proven ability to provide leadership for the social/emotional and academic learning of adolescents.
- Supervise, support and act as a positive role model for all our Grade 8 to 12 boarders.
- Attend a weekly or bi-monthly staff meeting.
- Communicate regularly with other boarding team members.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education at the university level; B.Ed. an asset.
- Acquire/maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license (in good standing) in order to be able to drive school-owned passenger vans on boarding activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the philosophy and/or mission of the school, the purpose of its activities, its programs and special services and relates this to the running of boarding.
- Understand the importance of diversity in implementing an inclusive world view.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications are an asset.
- Previous experience in an independent day/boarding school a definite asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Google.

**Compensation**:

- $19.18 per hour. Shifts are typically 8 hours long, either 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Saturdays and Sundays) and/or 4 p.m. - midnight (7 days per week)
- Meals while on-shift.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months

Pay: $19.18 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
