**Basic Function**:
Reporting to the Manager of Species Recovery. Under direct supervision this position assists the manager with various priority projects involving herptofauna, bats, or terrestrial aquatics. Responsibilities include field research, public outreach, development of education and promotional program resources, developing partnerships and assist with planning conservation special events. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.
**Responsibilities**:
- Assists with the execution of various conservation programs. May have responsibility for various projects as it relates to the program. Assists with the execution of Species Recovery programs, including fieldwork planning, field-data collection, data management, and husbandry support.
- Serves as a field team leader providing support and guidance to other Species Recovery field staff. Provides guidance, direction, and training to seasonal field researchers.
- Conducts field research, compiles, and analyzes research data and reports on results. Consults with project partners as required.
- Provides support for additional Species Recovery programs as required.
- Organizes and delivers public outreach such as presentations and workshops. Design and delivers focused public outreach talks relating to specific Species Recovery programs.
- Writes and edits newsletters, articles, blogs and other public communications. Works with Strategic Communications and Partnerships and Events to tailor press releases and other public communications.
- Assists with literature searches and reviews. Assists with literature reviews and summaries for specific Species Recovery research projects.
- Assists with resourcing and developing education materials, brochures, graphics and promotional materials as it relates to the programs. Assists with the creation of Species Recovery graphic displays and promotional content.
- Assists with funding and grant proposals and reports. Work with partners to find new funding opportunities.
- Provides regular updates to the Manager of Species Recovery.
- Other related duties as requested by the Supervisor.
**Qualifications**:
- Completed a Bachelor of Science in biology, ecology or related environmental science or a similar College program or the equivalent amount of experience and training.
- Must possess an understanding of research methods, ecology of species at risk relevant to current Species Recovery programs, and other issues related to the assignment.
- Must possess 6-months previous experience in fieldwork methods relevant to Species Recovery programs, such as radio telemetry, turtle trapping/monitoring experience, capture/handling of Ontario bats, bat acoustic data collection/analysis etc,.
- Must have proven, exceptional interpersonal skills and strong organizational skills.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills using the English language.
- Must possess a full G license with a good driving record.
- Possess working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.
- Must be capable of performing the physical demands of the job.
- Must be able and willing to work on/off site as well as shifts, weekends and holidays.
