Experienced Bookkeeper

We are looking for a permanent bookkeeper working in office once or twice per week. The job requires approximately 40 hours per month.
Major Responsibilities
- Use of QuickBooks Desktop;
- Preparing monthly bank reconciliations;
- Maintaining and updating accounting records by performing duties such as recording and posting transactions in journals and the general ledger;
- Preparing and printing all cheques from QuickBooks;
- Process and calculate payroll;
- Monthly calculation and remittance of payroll deductions, EHT, WSIB, and other payroll benefits;
- Preparing monthly statements for management review;
- Coordinating and supporting preparation of the audited financial statements for the Local's June 30th year end.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a bookkeeping role;
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and full cycle bookkeeping;
- Experience processing payroll is required;
- A keen attention to detail along with an ability to focus on the overall concepts;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Self-motivated with strong prioritizing and follow-up skills; and
- Ability to cope in a deadline-driven environment.
Any previous experience working with and/or understanding the operations of a labour union is an asset.
Computer Skills
- Highly experienced in QuickBooks Desktop;
- Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Outlook and Word.
