Landscape/horticultural Specialist

Victoria, Canada The Market Garden Full time

**Job Overview**:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Horticultural/Landscape Specialist to help maintain and enhance our outdoor spaces and relevant infrastructure. We are a dynamic company with many varied ongoing projects, requiring a wide variety of skills and knowledge in the landscaping and horticultural field. Additionally, you will often be required to help with other projects. Additional desirable skills include: tile cutting, painting, plastering and wood working.

**Duties**:
Conduct regular landscape maintenance tasks such as, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, and regular irrigation.

Seed and transplant various trees, shrubs, and forbs.

Monitor plants and soil health and adjust accordingly using organic methods.

Properly design and select plants with consideration of ecological value, site suitability, and aesthetics.

Design, build, repair, and maintain various landscape infrastructures such as fences, garden walls, and raised beds.

Design and construct hardscape infrastructure development such as patios, pathways; using materials such as brick, pavers, cobblestone, concrete, etc.

Overall maintenance and upkeep of the exterior grounds.

Collaborate with team members to implement functional and artistic landscape plans.

**Qualifications**:
Specific knowledge regarding specific soil types and analysis, in order to provide proper plant recommendations for our specific site. Degree and/or training in Ecology, Soil science, Botany, Permaculture, Holistic site management is ideal.

Knowledge of power tools and hand tools used in landscaping and landscape construction.

Flexibility and adaptability are a must for the nature and timing of projects.

Ability to work around customers and our shop dog.

Ability to work long hours and some weekends.

Good physical shape and stamina for heavy lifting, sometimes tedious arduous work, and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
