Park Patrol
This position offers those interested in a law enforcement career the opportunity for
seasonal employment with the City of Stratford and Stratford Police Service between the
months of May - September.
**Summer Park Patrollers shall**:
- Ensure compliance with specific Municipal Bylaws, in accordance with
appropriate legislation and procedures;
- Patrol, parks, green areas, river banks, streets, alleys, jogging trails and
other areas normally inaccessible to vehicular patrol units while utilizing a
police bicycle;
- Provide a visible and accessible presence on behalf of both the city and
the Service at special events and functions organized by community
groups;
- Ensure adherence to existing policies and acceptable standards; and perform
additional duties as lawfully assigned;
- To facilitate their roles and responsibilities, Summer Park Patrollers are duly
appointed City of Stratford By-law officers;
- During inclement or unsafe weather, Summer Park Patrollers may, at the
discretion of the Duty N.C.O., be assigned to ride-along with on-duty Stratford
Police Service officers;
**Training**:
Summer Park Patrollers will receive training specific to their roles and
**responsibilities that shall include**:
- Training on specific Municipal Bylaws regarding associated offences, and
the issuance of Provincial Offence Notices;
- Personal safety and the provincial Use of Force model as it relates to the
roles and responsibilities of Summer Park Patrollers;
- De-escalation techniques and communication strategies;
- Notes and report preparation;
- Bicycle safety;
- Radio procedures;
- Overall roles, responsibilities of the position;
- An overview of resources available to them at the Stratford Police Service;
**Abilities**:
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make good creative decisions;
- Ability to problem solve;
- Ability to observe, retain and prepare clear, concise and accurate notes and
reports;
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and
to handle the public with courtesy and authority;
- Ability to work in a team setting with mínimal supervision;
