**Heavy Equipment Technician**

Summary:
Reporting directly to the Lead Mechanic, the Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, adjustment, maintenance, repairs, and overhaul of equipment and vehicles owned, leased, or rented by Westlock County. The mechanic will work with other shop employees as well as collaboratively with other work areas to achieve the goals and objectives of Westlock County.

The incumbent carries out maintenance on vehicles and equipment and must have a broad working knowledge in all applicable areas. Various Provincial, Federal, and Municipal legislation, regulations and policies must be adhered to.

**Duties**:

- Carries out regular preventative maintenance and inspection programs on all vehicles and equipment to identify and reduce possible mechanical problems as well as troubleshooting, adjustments, repairs, and overhauls of equipment
- Ensures maintenance and repairs are performed in a cost effective and timely manner
- Setup of vehicles and equipment
- Properly disposing of used fluids, worn-out parts, and other components
- Ensuring tools are in good working order and safe to use
- Perform duties to a high degree of quality, timeliness, and precision
- Undertake other duties as may be assigned by the Transportation Foreman
- Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work collaboratively with other County employees, contractors, and vendors to provide quality customer service
- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
- Complete work orders as necessary
- Documentation and paperwork with regards to standard operating procedures and shop rules

**Requirements**:

- Current Alberta Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Journeyman Certificate
- Consideration will be given for current Alberta Automotive Service Technician Certificate or equivalent. As a condition of employment, the applicant must be prepared to register and complete the Alberta Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Journeyman Certificate
- Incumbent is expected to provide own hand and air tools to perform this role
- At least 3 years of experience in related role is preferred
- Must have thorough knowledge of mechanics as they relate to automotive and heavy equipment and must have thorough knowledge in the safe use of tools
- Must possess a Class 3 operator’s license with Air Brake “Q” Endorsement, and an acceptable drivers' abstract
