Halifax, Canada Nova Scotia Teachers Union Full time

**RESPONSIBLITIES**:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the responsibilities of the Financial Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Preparing financial statements
Supporting elected officials at board and general meetings
Performing internal reviews for Locals, Professional Associations and Regional Representative Councils
Supporting the external auditor as required
Budget preparation
Internal financial, managerial, and ad hoc analyses
Providing professional development for Treasurers

**Qualifications**:
University Degree and Accounting Designation CPA (or in the process of obtaining) preferred
Familiarity with accounting software (Sage, Quicken)
Intermediate to Advanced skill with Microsoft Excel
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Superior organizational skills with emphasis on attention to details
Strong interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships with members and colleagues
Self-Starter; able to work independently while being part of a team
Ability to manage conflicting priorities and stressful situations with confidence
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Must possess a valid Driver’s License as occasional travel throughout the province will be required
Ability to communicate in French would be considered an asset

**SALARY & BENEFITS**:
As covered by the NSTU Professional Services Staff Agreement.
