**Environmental Stewardship Technician**

**Location**:Kenora, Ontario

**Work Term**:Summer Student job

**DESCRIPTION**:Environmental Stewardship Technicians are key members of LOWDSA’s LakeSmart team. LakeSmart is an environmental outreach program managed by LOWDSA. It assists the Association with delivery of environmental education through various programs, events, and initiatives. (Co-op credit at participating institutions)

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
▪ Act as LOWDSA ambassadors Conduct visits by boat to waterfront residents promoting sustainable shoreline practices & living green at the lake

▪ Deliver virtual outreach through our website, social media, webinars, and other online content Liaise with experts, professionals, organizations and community

▪ Lead invasive species initiatives (boat wash station, community-based monitoring, outreach) Coordinate community participation in stewardship

▪ Deliver environmental education and outreach to the public at various events, youth programs, and to various groups and organizations

▪ Document and track analytics in real time

**EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS**:
▪ Education in job-related program and/or work experience in a related field (Environmental science, biology, resource management, science, communications).

▪ Able to work flexible hours including weekends

▪ Valid driver's licence Pleasure Craft Operators Card (or willing to obtain)

▪ Access to a motor vehicle

▪ CPR/Standard First Aid Certificate are assets

**REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**:
▪ Strong organization and people skills

▪ Ability to work independently and with a team Knowledge of issues surrounding shoreline health

▪ Excellent written and oral communication skills (public speaking, contributing articles to blogs/newsletters/magazines)

▪ Familiar with the Lake of the Woods region. Strong navigation skills is a key asset

▪ Demonstrate proficiency in using marine equipment safely and according to legislation

▪ Plant, fish, and invertebrate identification skills

▪ Experience in engaging the public/volunteers/youth and networking with professionals

▪ Demonstrate effective communication strategies through various social media platforms

▪ Familiar with programs like Microsoft Knowledge of field work principles (accurate data recording, use of equipment, reports, etc.)

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**:

- 8 hour shift
