**Job Description: Community Engagement Specialist**

**Position Overview**: We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Community Engagement Specialist with experience in working within the Jewish community and a keen interest in health promotion and cancer prevention. This is a hybrid contract position based in Vancouver, BC, with the flexibility for some remote work. The position will commence as soon as possible and will extend over the next six months, with the possibility of renewal.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Implement and support the execution of a community outreach strategy aimed at promoting health education and awareness.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, leaders, and members to encourage participation in the genetic testing program.
- Effectively communicate complex scientific information related to hereditary cancer and BRCA gene mutations in an accessible manner.
- Utilize social media platforms and other digital tools to amplify outreach efforts and engage the community.
- Collaborate with a team while maintaining the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Serve as a liaison between the Jewish community and health organizations, ensuring culturally sensitive and effective communication.
- Attend meetings, events, and community activities to promote the program and build awareness.
- Maintain professionalism while working with senior leaders, community engagement professionals, and community members.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Community Development, Communications, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in community engagement or outreach, with a demonstrated focus on the Jewish community.
- Strong understanding of hereditary cancer risks, specifically related to BRCA gene mutations, or the interest and ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
- Proven experience in health promotion and communication, particularly in a non-profit or community-based setting.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Strong written communication skills, with comfort in both professional written communication and academic writing.
- Proficiency in using social media platforms, digital tools, and other technologies for community outreach and engagement.
- Ability to explain scientific and health-related information in a clear and relatable manner.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment as well as the capability to work independently.
- Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license for travel within the community.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including availability for evening work and occasional weekends, as required by community events or meetings.
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and a strong sense of personal and mutual responsibility in fulfilling the role's diverse tasks.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Familiarity with the cultural and religious practices within the Jewish community.
- Experience working in cancer prevention, genetics, or related health fields.

**Work Environment**:

- Hybrid role with both remote and in-office work in Vancouver, BC.
- Flexible work hours depending on community needs and events.

**Remuneration**:

- This position is a 0.2 FTE contract role, with a compensation rate of CAD $40 per hour.
