Dispatcher

SUMMARY

The Dispatcher will dispatch and monitor assigned truck drivers and equipment for scheduled workloads. The Dispatcher is the first point of contact between drivers and the company, hence must build, monitor, and maintain beneficial relationships. The Dispatcher is required to meet customer needs via on-time deliveries and maintaining company goals, policies, and procedures. This position requires excellent communication skills, effective time management and high attention to detail.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and direct fleet of drivers based on daily needs, and coordinating and assigning specific tasks, instruction, and guidance
- Coordinate with planning, sales, and dispatch teams to organize and move freight
- Schedule, dispatch, and monitor driver and equipment workloads and locations according to customer requests, specifications, and needs
- Process and transmit information and instructions to co-ordinate the activities of truck operators, crews and equipment using a variety of computer-aided communications and dispatching equipment
- Monitor driver and equipment locations and utilization to coordinate service and schedules in order to minimize empty miles
- Aid drivers in troubleshooting for difficult deliveries
- Exchange information with brokers in order to prepare and obtain customs clearance
- Facilitate border crossing and customs by following appropriate documents and procedures
- Adhere to DOT, FMCSA, CBP, and CBSA regulations and procedures
- Update reports with routed miles and allocated trip revenues
- Interpret and resolve complaints or disagreements from drivers concerning loads, schedules, or other relevant conflicts which arise

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Technical ability to understand and use transportation industry programs, such as AXON, Shaw Tracking, PC Miler
- Ability to create and modify word-processed documents using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Moderate oral and written comprehension required
- High attention to detail
- Effective time management & planning skills required
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Moderate decision making and problem solving required in order to comply with last minute loads, special projects, or accommodating driver schedules for emergencies

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED required
- CCLP designation considered an asset
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in transportation industry, dispatch experience preferred

- Ability to remain seated for long durations
- Ability to exert force of less than 5kg
