The ALERT Crime & Intelligence Analyst will conduct tactical and strategic analytics for ongoing ALERT investigations, research and analyze information to identify individuals involved in serious and organized crime, provide support to intelligence-led law enforcement investigations, and assist other ALERT analysts throughout the province as required.

- This permanent full-time position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge._
**Wage: $43.96 per hour |Interim 2022 Job Rate.
**Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week**

**As the ALERT Crime & Intelligence Analyst you will**:
- Perform tactical criminal intelligence analysis as it relates to serious and organized crimes under the mandate of the ALERT Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit.
- Provide recommendations and guidance to investigators based on the analysis of the data examined specific to active projects and incidents.
- Prepare comprehensive analytical packages, briefs and assessments of crime issues based on criminal incidents, series and trends.
- Provide case management expertise to support serious and organized crime investigations/projects through intelligence analysis techniques including but not limited to: phone record analysis, time lines, modus operandi analysis, court preparation, note taking, evidence/task tracking, data verification and quality assurance.
- In the process of daily duties, identify and verify larger geographic, long term criminal activity patterns and crime groups (for example, organized crime and drug trafficking groups) emergence that may have a significant impact on Lethbridge and other areas in southern Alberta in the future.
- Utilize data obtained from numerous external databases (Niche, PROS, CORES, ORCA, CPIC, JOIN etc.) covering local, provincial, and national/information sources.
- Prepare comprehensive analytical packages, briefs and assessments of crime issues based on criminal incidents, series and trends.
- Liaise with partners and external agencies to identify crime trends and movement from the municipal, regional, national, and international level.
- Initiate and maintain relationships with internal units, as well as appropriate external agencies, to gather and disseminate information and analysis.
- Perform other duties as required.
- A bachelor’s degree in Social Science or a related field with 3 years of demonstrated research and analytical experience within a law enforcement or public safety context; OR a Master’s degree with at least 1 year of analytical experience is required.
- A minimum of at least two (2) years of relevant experience performing data analysis leveraging statistical analysis, geographic information systems, relational database management, applied research methods, evaluation of qualitative and quantitative information and critical thinking skills.
- Experience, knowledge, and understanding of law enforcement operations and the criminal justice system is preferred.
- They will have demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, while maintaining strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Advanced level skills in Microsoft Office Excel, Social Network Analysis (SNA) and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) are required.
- Work independently and without direction, research and learn new techniques and skills of crime and intelligence analysis (usually computer software based).
- A working knowledge of police data bases including Niche, PROS, CORES, ORCA, CPIC, JOIN etc. would be considered an asset.
- The ability to work irregular/flexible hours when required.
