Sport Instructor (Skating)

The Manor Park Community Council (MPCC) is looking for enthusiastic Skating Instructors to join our team for the 2025 skating season

If you have experience developing and leading skating lessons for children aged 5 - 10 then we want to hear from you. Please send us your resume and a cover letter outlining what makes you a great leader in your sport.

Skating lessons will run weekly, on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, on the Manor Park Outdoor Rink in January and February.

**JOB DESCRIPTION: Sport Instructor**
- **Reports to**:_ Sports Supervisor.
- **Position designation**:_ Temporary, Non-managerial, Part
- or Full-time.
- **Salary Range**:_ $20-$22 per hour.
- **Hours**:_ per Employment Agreement.
- **Overview**_

The Manor Park Community Council (MPCC) is a not-for-profit organization providing recreational and licensed child care programs to the greater community. The MPCC is comprised of a Board of Directors, paid employees, and volunteers. Key programs include: ‘Before
- and After-School in Manor Park’, Manor Park Child Care Centre, Summer Day Camps, and a variety of sessional art and sport activities. In addition, the MPCC organizes special events for the community. These include: Skating Party, 'Pints in the Park', and ‘Rock the Block’.

The MPCC offers sports programming to children and adults. A variety of sports (eg. soccer, baseball, flag rugby, fitness, skating) are offered at the recreational or introductory level.

Sport Instructors are responsible for delivering sport instruction, activity setup and cleanup as well as ensuring the safety of participants. Success is measured by innovative program delivery, enthusiastic participants and by surveyed responses of the participants and/or their parents.
- **Essential Job Functions**:_

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Programming
- Developing lesson plans, if directed by the Sports Supervisor;
- Modifying lessons based on the needs of participants;
- Designing a fun and safe environment that complements the sport;
- Submitting lesson plans to the Sports Supervisor;
- Maintaining an inventory of equipment / supplies;
- Setting up for the lesson, and
- Cleaning up after the lesson.

Interactions with Participants
- Ensuring the participant’s safety;
- Familiarizing self with any special needs, medical considerations or life-threatening allergies of children in attendance;
- Attending to First Aid needs;
- Being an enthusiastic leader;
- Engaging the participants;
- Providing a positive role model for effective interpersonal communications;
- Treating each participant with respect and dignity;
- Helping each participant become an integral member of the group;
- Consider each participant in relation to his / her personal background;
- Practicing and encouraging fair play;
- Encouraging participation over winning;
- Promptly and professionally attending to discipline / behavioural problems, and
- Referring any problems concerning participants to the Sports Supervisor.

Interaction with Parents of Underage Participants
- Providing parents with an outline of lesson plans for the session;
- Communicating with parents about their child’s activities, and
- Referring problems concerning parents or children to the Sports Supervisor.

Other
- Supervising volunteers, where applicable;
- Completing and submitting to Sports Supervisor all required paperwork

(eg. participant attendance records, timesheet, expense reports);
- Completing incident report, if required;
- Keeping rooms, equipment areas, cupboards and activity sites clean and organized;
- Reporting equipment requiring replacement or repair;
- Ensuring that the Manor Park Community Centre and storage units are secured, as applicable;
- Following MPCC Policies and Procedures, and
- Understanding manuals and documentation associated with employment.
- **Requirements**:_
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, from a recognized agency;
- Heart Wise accreditation, where applicable;
- Valid Police Record Check, Level 3;
- Ability to effectively communicate in English;
- Experience working with groups of children;
- Experience working with groups of adults;
- Experience instructing / coaching applicable sport;
- Minimum three (3) years participation in applicable sport;
- Proficiency in both execution and rules of applicable sport;
- Experience working as member of a team, and
- Ability to work independently within established procedural guidelines and/or written directions.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Night shift
- Weekends as needed

Licence/Certification:

- Standard First Aid / CPR Level C (preferred)
- Police Records Check: Level 3 Vulnerable Sector (preferred)

Work Location: In person

Expected start date: 2025-01-15
