**Who we are**:The Operations Support Division provides a wide array of programs and services to 2 separate groups; Public Works clients and the community. It is the most diverse division in Peel, serving many different Public Works clients. Ops Support even services the community through various environmental education programs, call centres, and water billing.

**Reports to**:Director of Operations Support

**Team Structure**:Oversees a team of 3 including 2 Field Health and Safety Specialists and a Coordinator as well as manages various consultants.

**What you will do in this role**:

- Leads a dedicated technical team responsible to maintain an effective Occupational H&S Management System to enable the Department to manage Occupational Health and Safety issues as an integrated part of its overall program operations. Responsible for hiring, coaching and mentoring staff and develop job objectives, assign work and monitor staff performance.
- Provides regular updates and reporting to the Department Leadership Team, and other stakeholders in the program areas on the performance of the OHSMS and any need for improvements through development of graphical and tabular presentation of data.
- Supports the Region of Peel Corporate Health and Safety Team and Program Management Staff with the investigation of workplace injuries, accidents and near misses, by overseeing the root cause analysis, preparing recommendations for prevention and ensuring implementation of corrective actions.
- Plans and leads the development and implementation of a departmental wide emergency prevention, preparedness, and response plan
- Establishes and oversees OHS objectives, targets and timelines with the Public Works Divisions (Water, Wastewater, Transportation, Development Services, Operations Support, Regional Planning and Growth Development) to be consistent with the Region’s Occupational health and safety policy and programs and the Region’s Strategic Plan.
- Responsible to deliver the execution of Job Hazard Analysis tools
- Delivers Health and Safety Risk Assessments
- Plans and directs internal and external audits to assess compliance with regulatory standards and system requirements.
- Leads the analysis and evaluation of health and safety performance metrics and provides recommendations to improve performance.
- Maintains working knowledge of legislation and industry best practices to continuously interpret and implement health and safety controls to ensure service delivery for both internal and external clients.
- Manages an operating budget using fiscally responsible decision making.

**What the role requires**

**Educational Background/ Must Haves/Bonafide Job Requirements**:

- University or College graduate in Occupational Health and Safety with a Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation, or Canadian Registered Safety Technician designation, with at least five years’ experience planning, implementing and managing Systems and Standards in complex work environments (including both unionized and non-unionized workforce) or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Previous team leadership/supervisory experience
- Occupational Health and Safety experience in the construction, transportation and industrial sectors are an asset
- Experience developing and auditing OHS programs in a Municipal environment preferred
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing an Occupational Health and Safety management system.

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Consulting experience including proposal and report writing, project management, and business development is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to explain health and safety processes and deliver presentations to various levels of understanding and organizational levels
