Foster Parents

Our mission at The Sheltering Tree Child & Family Services is to create an environment that nurtures, while enhancing the social, physical and mental health of children, youth and their families. By providing a tailored, effective and culturally sensitive model, our programs impart the tools needed to overcome barriers they may encounter throughout their journeys parents are people who are committed to making a difference in the life of a child.

Foster Parents may be married or single. Our foster parents must be over the age of 21. They may or may not already have children of their own. Foster families come from a variety of cultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle situations.

Foster parents receive a daily per diem

Successful foster families tend to share some common characteristics. They often:

- Like to spend time with children and place high value on parenting
- Communicate well
- Have an understanding of children, their development, and their needs
- Enjoy learning
- Work well in a team
- Have an optimistic and positive life view
- Are patient and consistent, yet able to meet new challenges with flexibility

All foster families receive training, relief, 1:1 support for youth and ongoing support from our foster care team.
