Park Attendant

The Town of BWG is looking for an energetic and highly motivated individual to join the Parks Division of the Community Services Department from May to October. Reporting to the Supervisor of Parks and Property, this position will provide support to the parks & property team by assisting with the organization and maintenance properties throughout the Town.
**Responsibilities**:
- Operates and maintains trucks, trailers, mowers and trimmers to maintain municipal parks and properties
- Prepares, plants and maintains annual and perennial beds
- Maintains planter baskets, trees, shrubs and hanging baskets when required
- Layout and management of the sports field lining
- Operation and repair of the irrigation systems and for planting
- Maintains sports fields including trash removal and line painting
- General housekeeping duties when required;
- Manage litter in parks; municipal facilities, trails, walkways and cemeteries
- Additional duties include responding to inquiries from the public, community groups, sports/user groups, and special event organizers regarding maintenance conditions and resolve complaints and/or refers complaints to appropriate individual.
- Work as support staff for Town run special events, assisting in facility set-up for meetings and events as required and performs such other related duties as assigned.
Key Competencies and Qualifications
- Must have two (2) years of previous parks maintenance experience, preferably in horticulture
- A high school diploma or recognized equivalent with preference given to those who have obtained, or in the process of obtaining, a parks & property or horticultural certificate or diploma
- Book 7 training is an asset
- Demonstrated understanding of the operation and repair of the irrigation system and sport filed lining maintenance.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills to foster cooperative working relationships, and to maintain diplomacy and integrity.
- Must be able to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies and the public.
- Ability to drive a pickup truck with trailer, large commercial mowers and use a variety of grass cutting tools and equipment
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license in good standing.
This position offers an hourly rate of $21.22 to $26.07 (April 1, 2023 rates, International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793).
