The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General assumes the responsibility for ensuring the security and economic vitality of British Columbia’s communities through effective policing, corrections, and protective and regulatory programs.

Policing in British Columbia is provided by the RCMP Provincial Force, 59 RCMP municipal forces, 11 independent municipal forces, and one First Nations force. The Solicitor General, as the chief law enforcement officer for the province, has a statutory mandate under the Police Act to ensure that adequate and effective levels of policing and law enforcement are maintained throughout the province. On behalf of the Solicitor General, Police Services Division is responsible for fulfilling this mandate.

The First Nations Consultation Officer develops policies consistent with the objectives and priorities of the Ministry and Ministry programs. Consults extensively with First Nation communities, federal and local governments, and police agencies to develop options and recommendation on a wide range of policing, law enforcement and First Nation issues and programs.

**Job Requirements**:

- Diploma/Certificate/Credits **AND** three years related experience*, **OR**;
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public management, governmental policy, indigenous studies, criminology, policing or law enforcement or a related field (e.g., management, business administration, policy, police studies) **AND** two years related experience*, **OR**;
- Combination of education and experience _may be considered._
- **Related experience must include the following**:

- Experience in policy analysis.
- Experience conducting research.
- Experience working with stakeholder organizations and agencies and senior management.

**Special Requirements**:

- Incumbent will work in First Nation Communities meeting with Elders, Chiefs and other First Nation representatives. The incumbent must be aware of First Nation issues and be sensitive to culture, traditions and values of the First Nations people in order to develop trusting and productive relationships.
- Travel required to remote First Nations Communities. Must possess valid BC Driver’s License.

**About this Position**:
There is currently an 18-month temporary opportunity, which may be extended and/or become permanent.
