Job Summary
Provides counselling services for recipients of the Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Program across the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses for Black Canadian students, to support their mental health and wellbeing, help them succeed academically, support career exploration and personal development, and deepen their sense of belonging within community. Collaborates with scholarship programs and Health Promotion and Education to develop and deliver wellbeing programming using a strengths-based approach, drawing from theories of positive psychology, resilience and growth. May also provide focused mental health support to Black students, and the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Scholars Program for student refugees and other UBC students, within an integrated, collaborative stepped care system of mental health support. Provides consultation to faculty and staff and participates in training and supervision of master’s level practicum students or pre-doctoral interns.

Organizational Status
Reports jointly to the Associate Director, Equity, Counselling Services and Scholar Program Lead. Works collaboratively as a member of an integrated team of professionals, actively participating in and contributing to the development and delivery of effective and efficient counselling services. Works in collaboration with Student Health and Wellbeing units, Student Affairs units, Faculties and other University departments and student organizations.

Work Performed
- Works within an integrated, collaborative stepped care system of mental health support, to provide individual and group counselling for a broad range of personal concerns as well as crisis intervention to support students experiencing mental health concerns.
- Works closely with the Beyond Tomorrow Scholars as well as Health Promotion and Education to develop and deliver culturally appropriate, trauma-informed wellbeing programming to meet the unique needs of scholarship students including orientations, outreach, workshops, seminars, groups and other events and resources that help students cope with stress, learn how to manage cultural adjustment and maintain wellbeing, and how to seek support when needed.
- Participates in Counselling Services case management and administrative meetings as well as meetings with scholarship programs.
- Participates in the development of policies, processes and plans that promote student wellbeing as well as policies and procedures to ensure effective counselling service delivery.
- Provides consultation services to faculty and staff regarding the impact of policies, processes and programs on student well-being as well as specific student concerns.
- Collaborates with student, faculties, departments and other student services to develop and deliver programs and services that enhance student learning and wellbeing such as Early Alert.
- Coordinates the design, implementation, and analysis of program evaluation and research projects specific to area of coordination.
- Liaises with community stakeholders, professional organizations, post-secondary institutions, and other partners to support effective counselling program development and delivery.
- Coordinates programs, initiatives, and other special events related to the work of the unit and scholarship programs.
- Provides clinical supervision and training for master’s practicum or pre-doctoral internship programs
- Prepares reports, publications and other documents as required.
- Performs other duties consistent with the mandate of Counselling Services as requested.
