We offer comprehensive benefits along with rewarding career opportunities focused on improving the health and well-being of the people of Saskatchewan.Under the direction of the Manager of Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Support, and under the supervision of the Senior Clinical Perfusionist, the incumbent will be a member of the Cardiovascular and Critical Care team supporting all aspects of perfusion services including cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), extra corporeal life support (ECLS), and facets of blood management.

**Duties**:

- Selecting, setting up, maintaining and operating CPB equipment during cardiac surgery.
- Monitors the patient’s altered circulatory process closely, taking appropriate corrective action when abnormal situations arise and keeping both the surgeon and the anesthesiologist fully informed.
- Carries out physiological measurements and monitors physiological responses during surgery. In addition to the operation of the heart-lung machine during surgery, the Clinical Cardiovascular Perfusionist functions in a supportive role for other medical specialties in operating mechanical devices to assist in the conservation of blood and blood products during surgery including cell salvaging and thromboelastograhpy.
- Provides extended, long-term support of the patient’s circulation outside of the operating room environment such as intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) and ECLS.
- Equipment currently employed include (but not limited to) Sorin S5 and S3 heart lung machines, Sorin data management system, Datascope IABP’s, Medtronic Autolog cell salvage devices, Haemonetics thromboelastograph analyzers, and ABL blood gas analyzers.
- Works collaboratively with Biomedical Engineering to ensure all perfusion related equipment meets current standards for maintenance.
- Assists medical staff with equipment evaluations related to cardiovascular perfusion as directed by providing feedback and input.
- The Perfusion department is actively engaged in interdisciplinary education around extracorporeal technology and blood conservation within the hospital and participates in student preceptorship for The Michener Institute of Education at UHN & the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s perfusion training programs.
- Participation in call back rotation and after hours work as needed.

**Requirements**:
Education
- A graduate of an accredited educational program of Clinical Perfusion.
- Has successfully completed the credentialling exams of the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion. If not completed, must be eligible to attend the next writing of the exam.
- A member in good standing of the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion, (C.S.C.P.).

Experience
- Clinical experienced preferred, but new or anticipated graduates encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or training in all aspects of the program area.
- Ability to work well with others, as well as independently under pressure or in emergency situations.
- Demonstrated judgment skills, capable of taking initiative and flexible attitude.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated ability to accept and implement change.
