**Recruitment range: $59,897- $66,034** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $77,880** is available through annual performance increases.
- Job SummaryReporting to the Senior Laboratory Instructor, the Laboratory Instructor is responsible for the organization, preparation, teaching and assessment of the laboratory classes. These responsibilities involve managing and coordinating LMS (e.g. Moodle) and integrated learning tools (e.g. iClickers), pretesting, pre-lab lectures, demonstrating techniques, grading students' practical skills and knowledge in the form of quizzes, examinations, lab summaries and reports as set by the laboratory instructor, and assisting with problems students may encounter. This position also carries responsibility for the enforcement of correct safety procedures in the laboratory course.

The lab instructor coordinates and trains teaching assistants and work study students. As well, the lab instructor maintains an inventory of lab chemicals, supplies and equipment and requests new supplies and equipment yearly. Other duties include assisting students outside of formal lab periods, assisting in lab development, lab manual updates, revisions to assessment requirements, and addressing requests for references.
- Job RequirementsQualifications:

- A BSc in Microbiology or Biochemistry with 2 years' relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
- Experience with LMS;
- A thorough understanding of microbiology and biochemistry and associated methods and techniques;

This position also requires:

- The ability to work quickly and effectively/efficiently;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent time-management, interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to provide support in a positive, flexible and conscientious manner;
- Aptitude to adapt to changes in technology in Learning Management Systems and scientific equipment;
- Willingness to work flexible hours on occasion including weekends and/or evenings;
- Research experience would be considered an asset.
