**Job Description**:
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, the Clinical Scholars are experienced nurses who work in supernumerary positions. They provide structured mentorship to newly graduated nurses, including nursing graduates, internationally educated nurses (IENs), and nurses seeking to enhance their skills (upskill).

Their main responsibility is to assist new nursing graduates in their practice and integration into care areas while adhering to college standards, policies, and procedures. Collaborating closely with clinical teams, Clinical Scholars guide and support staff in delivering safe, high-quality care for patients and families. They demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in enhancing the overall patient and family experience.

Furthermore, Clinical Scholars serve as intermediaries between novice learners and various staff, including unit leadership, Professional Practice, and Operations. Their role involves fostering effective communication and ensuring a smooth transition for newly graduated nurses as they adapt to their roles in the healthcare environment.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide mentorship to newly graduated nurses to support their transition into the workforce. Types of new nurses include nursing graduates, internationally educated nurses (IENs) and nurses looking to upskill.
- Provide support using clinical teaching following Adult Learning Principles
- Create, adapt and deliver clinical teaching, education, drawing on innovations and best practices in clinical learning
- Supporting Clinical Educator/Facilitator in competency evaluations, reporting concerns to unit leadership.
- Promote wellness and team well-being through approaches such as the development of peer-to-peer network
- Collect data and key performance metrics to demonstrate outcomes and value of the program
- Support other corporate initiatives in education and professional development of the nursing workforce specifically in skill development of nursing graduates, internationally educated nurses (IENs) and nurses looking to upskill.

**Position Requirements**:

- Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Medical/Surgical Nursing, with current acute care experience
- Excellent clinical skills and competencies
- Knowledge of principles of adult learning
- Experience in clinical education/ teaching of undergraduate nursing students, or other relevant teaching experience
- Knowledge of CMH policies, processes, procedures, and incident reporting system
- Proficiency College of Nurses Standards of Practice (including entry to practice competencies).
- Experience with clinical equipment used at CMH (e.g., infusion pumps, medication dispensing cabinets, telemetry monitors, vascular access devices, etc.)
- Ability to give and receive timely and constructive feedback
- Completion of additional courses/certifications (e.g, Palliative education) an asset
- Previous experience as Clinical Instructor or placement supervisor
- Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for staff and patients

- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Must have an excellent attendance record- The successful external applicant is required to provide the applicable criminal record check, as requested by Human Resources, in accordance with federal and provincial legislation. Valid criminal record checks are in original format and dated with two months from date of conditional offer from CMH._
