Horizontal Directional Drill Operator
Reporting to the Foreman or Project Supervisor, the HDD Operator is responsible for operating the equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. The HDD Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment. Equipment may include and is not limited JT10 - JT60.
Position Qualifications:
- Great degree of manual dexterity
- 2+ years of experience in underground utility construction
- Class 1 Alberta driver's license preferred; or any class with air endorsement and clean drivers abstract
- Can communicate in English (speak, read, and write)
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Good organizational and time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple, and changing priorities. Detail oriented with an aptitude for metrics
- Strong drive to get projects / work completed. High integrity, ability to maintain confidentiality is essential
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel domestically as required
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and in awkward and tight spaces
Ticket Requirements
- Standard First Aid, ABGCA Approved Ground Disturbance Level II, Generic WHMIS 2015, CSTS 09 or 2020
Reporting Relationship
The operator reports directly to a Foreman or Project Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- Maintain a positive public image of the company with appropriate personal conduct and maintaining a clean and safe work environment
- Conducts pre-trip/walk-around safety inspections, maintenance checks and completes daily Field Level Hazard Assessments for all activities.
- Solid understanding of the OH&S legislation pertaining to construction
- Clean equipment as scheduled and/or required
- Ensure equipment is safe and secure at end of shift
- Advise the Fleet Manager of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
- Participate in routine maintenance
- Practice workplace safety
- Loading and unloading of equipment
- Assessing ground conditions of each location
- Working with ground personnel in locations and process of conduit and vault installation
- Place mats when needed
- Mix mud / polymer when applicable
- Perform general construction activities, when applicable
- Aid in the jetting process
- Other duties as assigned.
