**Job Posting: Environmental Stewardship Technician**

Stz’uminus First Nation is seeking a full-time (36 hours per week) summer Environmental Stewardship Technician with the potential opportunity to extend to a part-time or full-time position for September-March.

Technicians will work to increase Stz’uminus’ understanding of cumulative effects occurring within the traditional territory. Technicians will be a part of studies to understand the current environmental conditions and then work to improve them.

**Salary Range**: $18 to $25 per hour depending on experience and education.

The hours of work are May to the end of August, 8 am-5 pm Monday to Thursday.

**Essential Functions**

1. Support the Salish Sea Initiative Coordinator in fulfilling funding agreement goals and objectives for stewardship work.

2. Collect samples (water, clams) and data for research studies.

3. Record observations from samples and sites accurately and neatly.

4. Create reports based on sampling and observation records.

5. Identify and locate environmental features on work sites.

6. Report on monitoring activities.

7. Assist with the operation and maintenance of equipment, including laboratory, field, and monitoring equipment.

8. Communicate effectively with project team members.

9. Undertake restoration activities such as invasive species removal, native plantings, litter clean-up and shoreline monitoring as required.

10. Undertake the provided necessary training for safely conducting fieldwork and learn environmental technician skills.

11. Gain skills needed to build a career in the environmental sector.

**Job Specifications Requirements**

1. Ability to work with other staff, consultants, contractors and other service providers respectfully and professionally.

2. Ability to work outside in all weather and move over uneven terrain.

3. Effective communication skills, both verbal and in writing.

4. Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Suite, Outlook and Google Earth Pro.

5. Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and handle shifting priorities to produce results within deadlines.

6. Excellent problem-solving skills.

7. A positive and enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.

8. The ability to work with little supervision.

9. Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

10. Successful Criminal Record Check.

11. Grade 12 preferred.

**Job Specifications Preferences**

1. Strong understanding of Indigenous history and politics in British Columbia; cultural competency and knowledge of Stz’uminus cultural traditions and interests.

2. Experience collecting water samples and using laboratory equipment (e.g. microscope).

3. Experience working on and around water. Boat operation certificates and experience are preferred.

4. Experience maintaining and operating scientific equipment.

5. Experience with drones and remotely operated vehicles.

6. Level 1 First Aid is considered an asset.

7. Familiarity with marine ecosystems.

8. Experience with shellfish (harvesting, sampling, identification).

9. Experience using GIS programs.

10. Experience and/or interest in using drones.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal

**Salary**: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
