**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**COMMISSARY ATTENDANT & BARISTA**

Shawnigan Lake School is looking for a full-time Commissary Attendant & Barista to join our Student Centre team. This role serves as a helpful and reliable source of customer service and information to all students, staff, and visitors of Shawnigan Lake School during their shifts in our School store, café, or athletic venues.

We are looking for someone who is positive, friendly, knowledgeable, polite and committed to providing customers with excellent service.

This is a full-time, shift based opportunity. Shifts are scheduled on a monthly basis and will include daytime, evening and weekend shifts.

**ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

Reporting to the Operations Coordinator, the responsibilities of a Commissary Attendant & Barista include:

- Welcome and serve as a helpful information source for all customers including students, staff, parents and visitors of Shawnigan Lake School
- Perform cashiering tasks, including sales (through, cash, card, Apple Pay etc.), returns, payouts, charge sheet entries, and counting currency
- Stock, rotate, and price merchandise throughout the store
- Provide sales of and assistance with uniform fittings and purchases
- Perform opening and closing tasks according to procedure
- Order and receive stock, maintain stock room, and collect orders from the loading dock
- Track store and cafe inventory and other assets and perform periodic inventory processes
- Review, administer, and convey to others various student and staff polices, as needed
- Receive, prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks and snacks
- Assist with educating and training students to run the café for special programs and / or events
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs (when needed)
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following Industry; Shawnigan and Public Health standards and sanitation regulations
- Complete regular tidying and straightening of merchandise and displays, work and dining areas throughout each shift. Restock and replenish supplies and equipment, empty trash, sanitize, clean equipment, utensils, service and seating areas.
- Provide assistance to other departments as directed
- Demonstrate flexibility when assigned tasks by the Team Lead or Purchasing Coordinator

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Legally entitled to work in Canada, or if not, receive all appropriate visa and permissions to legally work in Canada
- Proficient with a variety of software and computerized systems, including POS systems and MS Office
- 1 - 2 years’ retail and/or food and beverage experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience In the Hospitality industry preferred
- A genuine and demonstrated willingness to learn
- Excellent customer service skills that include the ability to deal professionally with a wide range of people, from students and teachers to parents and visitors
- An ability to respectfully manage customer issues and to confidently solve problems
- Capable of responding to student situations with assertiveness while demonstrating sensitivity and discretion
- Proven record of professionalism, initiative, flexibility, and dependability
- Self-directed, independent, and extremely organized
- Grade 12 diploma, post-secondary education an asset
- Valid Food safe level 1, preferred
- Exceptional listening and communication skills
- Committed to customer satisfaction and service excellence
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Available to work a varied schedule which will include daytime, evening and weekend shifts
