Swine Technician

Spruit farms Ltd is a growing company and known as a modern, progressive, family atmosphere farm. As a team we are committed to raise high quality pigs in the most efficient and profitable way, with respect for the welfare of the pigs.

The farm is a farrow-to-wean with part finishing hog operation, located near Red Deer and Stettler, Alberta with currently 12 full time employees.

The Red Deer location has 2100 sows with internal production of replacement stock.

In Stettler County Spruit Farms Ltd has an 8500-nursery barn and 7000 finisher spaces on 2 locations East and South of the town of Stettler. Both locations are about 30 km from Stettler.

We are currently looking for a new member on our team on our East location near Gadsby in Stettler County. This location has a finisher barn and feed mill on site.

The work consists of the following, among other tasks:
Health check of pigs in the finisher barns

Moving pigs

Check if all automatic feeding, ventilation and heating is working as it should

Pressure washing rooms and keeping them clean as pigs grow.

Unloading and loading of trucks

Assist in all feedmill related jobs like inventory tracking, cleaning and minor maintenance of feedmill.

Weekend shifts every third weekend.

Normal days are 7-3:30.

However, pigs need to be taken care off and don't stop when its 3:30. So occasionally it can be later. Also, shipping of hogs sometimes needs to be done earlier, but this is no more than once a week.

Of course we will train the successful applicant, but experience is an asset.
