EIPS is recruiting two full-time term certain Family School Liaison Worker (FSLW) Solutions Navigator with our Support for Students department (SFS).

These positions will support schools in the community of Fort Saskatchewan as well as our eastern edge communities of Lamont, Mundare and Vegreville.

Commencing August 29, 2023

Ending June 27, 2024

37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours/day)

FUNCTION AND PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director, Supports for Students, this position provides support to Elk Island Public Schools students, educators, leaders and families. The Solutions Navigator works with principals, counsellors and other support staff to build and nurture Trauma-Informed School Cultures. This position is focused on providing support to schools in the community of Fort Saskatchewan as well as our eastern edge communities of Lamont, Mundare and Vegreville. Travel and access to a vehicle are required. The Solutions Navigator will assist students and their families as part of our Mental Health in Schools Pilot project, which has as its primary focus the introduction of Reset Rooms in Junior High Schools through the Division.

Support School Staff

Support school staff related to the implementation of the Reset Room in Junior High schools throughout the Division:
Collaborate with Reset Room staff, counsellors, and administrators at schools to identify support required for students experiencing distress and their families

Work with Division Mental Health Advisor to support the implementation of the Mental Health in Schools Pilot

Work with school teams, and as an extension of those teams, connect students and families to critical community resources

Support those students utilizing the RESET rooms to access community services

Liaise with community agencies focused on supporting youth and families in areas of mental health, building resilience and family support.

In collaboration with the school administration team, implement referrals to community resources

DECISION MAKING

This person will be required to make decisions collaboratively and independently to:
guide students, families and school teams on the next steps for students and families requiring support

together with school teams, determine which community connections will be most important for families and students who would benefit from additional support

This person will assist by working alongside school staff to ensure the practices related to mental health in EIPS are following best practice guidelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

**Education**:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Human Services, or an area directly related to Mental Health

Master’s degree in a related field is an asset

**Experience**:
Minimum of 3 years of experience providing services including promotion of mental health, intervention with children/youth experiencing mental health challenges, and/or strategic planning to support mental health

Work in school settings to promote mental health, wellness, and trauma-informed practice

Experience creating and facilitating effective professional development

Work in school-based mental health settings including the Glenrose Hospital or CASA is an asset

Promotion of child/youth mental health and wellness initiatives at a local level

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTITUDES

Strong, independent worker, capable of managing many roles and demands Understands various approaches to supporting mental health, including presenting issues related to childhood trauma

Works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, school teams, students, and families

Strong interpersonal skills including flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity and imagination

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent time management skills

Proficient in a variety of technological platforms
