Day Program Assistant

L'Arche Ottawa is looking for a full-time Day Program Assistant. This role involves working as a Day Program Assistant in our community center. The person in this position works collaboratively with the program team to ensure and foster the well-being, growth and development of the core members (people with intellectual disabilities) of the program, in accordance with the principles, values and philosophy outlined in the L'Arche Charter, the L'Arche Mission Statement and the L'Arche Canada Servant Leadership Model.
**Location**:
We currently have five L’Arche houses in Ottawa where people with and without disabilities live together. We have a Community Centre located 11 Rossland Ave, Ottawa, ON, where our administration team and Day Program work. Our community gatherings also take place in our Community Centre.
**Major Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Collaborate with Team members to support the learning goals and the physical, psychological, and emotional well-being of the Core Members who come to the program.
- Accompany individuals to activities within the program and community.
- Respond to each person's individual needs by respectfully supporting them with daily living skills, personal hygiene, and where needed, administering medications.
- Encourage each person to achieve the highest level of independence in personal care and relationships.
- Understand and adhere to all L'Arche Ottawa community standards, policies and procedures.
- Follow Day Program schedule and priorities outlined by the Program Coordinator.
- Perform other related activities as necessary or as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with team to pass on pertinent information.
**Qualifications, skills and position requirements**
- DSW or equivalent
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities
- Demonstrated experience and passion for supporting individuals with complex behavioral support needs
- Criminal reference check for the vulnerable sector
- Understanding of L'Arche and it's mission
- Demonstrated ability to monitor and respond to sudden changing environments
- Demonstrated ability to fully implement and monitor behavioral support plans and supporting documents
- Demonstrated ability to empower others and promote independence
- Effective communication skills
- Proven conflict resolution skills
- Strong team spirit, able to work cooperatively
- Stamina, strength and energy to meet the physical demands of the role
- Valid G license and at least 6 years of driving experience an asset
**Salary**: Based on L’Arche Canada’s Compensation Policy. Starting at $47,168.42 per year, based on previous experience, skills, and education. As a full time employee, your will be entitled to the Group Insurance benefits including life, dependant life, basic and occupational Accidental Death or Dismemberment (AD&D), Extended Health Coverage (EHC), Long Term Disability (LTD) as well L’Arche’s Employee Assistant Program (EAP) and the group retirement saving plan (RRSP).
