**Outdoor Camp Activity Leader**

To offer an outstanding program for children ages 5 - 12 in our community, the Outdoor Camp Activity Leader will work within a team of staff and be responsible for childcare, programming, and parent contact/ liaison. This position helps with the organization, leadership, administration, and implementation of the Oaklands Community Association’s Summer Camp Program which services children in Oaklands and the Greater Victoria Area. The position is supervised and reports to the Summer Camp Program Coordinator.

**Supervision**:

- Provide supervision and guidance to children during daily activities, field trips and special activities; provide guidance to children during daily activities, field trips and special activities
- Although this is not a BC Child Care Licensing program, the same standards of care will be adhered to with some exceptions; remain compliant to all OCA’s Policies and Procedures
- Establish and maintain good communication with children’s families and community agencies involved in children’s development.
- Take daily attendance, document all behavioural challenges in the appropriate communication logs, complete critical incident/ accident reports and maintain medication forms as required.

**Specific Accountabilities**:

- Prepare outdoor space for service delivery including planned activities and snack; ensure cleanliness and organization of equipment and supplies; assist in other housekeeping duties at end of day; assist in preparing bus for service delivery
- Research and implement new and innovative program ideas; engage with children and other leaders in implementation of crafts, games or other activities planned for the day, including outlining day on whiteboard.
- Be a positive role model for all children, using appropriate language and modeling in all areas; facilitate positive and professional parent/staff and children/staff relations
- Build children’s social/interpersonal skills and self-esteem by establishing routines and positive guidance policies that allow children to feel secure, comfortable and safe.
- Assist in organizing and preparing for family transitions into and exiting your room including greeting of children and families, storage of children’s personal belongings, emergency kits, settling children, etc.
- Be informed of children registered in the program, including specific information such as allergies and custody issues/ parent pick-up schedules/ authorized alternate pick-up people.
- Assist in ensuring cleanliness and organization of bus and supplies, including storage of supplies
- Provide supervision of the children, ensuring the program considers the health and well-being of all children as the highest priority
- Attend and participate in all team meetings; may be required to participate in Health & Safety training and meetings
- Utilize weekly program planning time approx. 1 hour/week - Collaborate with Camp Activity Leaders with creating and implementing weekly calendars based on camp themes, children interests, and planned out trip schedule

**Hours of Work**:This is a contracted full-time position. Shift is 9:30am - 5pm with a half hour unpaid break, working a maximum 35 hours/week, Monday - Friday. This position is expected to fulfill all 8 weeks of camp over the summer between June 29 - August 29, 2023, with the exception of Statutory Holidays.

**Compensation**: Wages will be $18.50/hour plus 4% in lieu of holiday pay. Pay may be increased upon experience and having a Class 4 Drivers License. This position offers OCA discounts.

**Qualifications**
- 19 years of age
- A minimum of twenty hours child-related coursework
- Minimum 2 years experience working in a leadership position th children in an outdoor childcare/recreational setting
- Current first aid certification and clean criminal record check
- Strong leadership skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Class 4 driving license is preferred
- Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment
