Reports to: Director, Lawyer Services and Payments

Department Overview
Lawyer Services and Payments (LSP) is responsible for efficient and accurate payment of certificate accounts in accordance with the Legal Aid Services Act. LSP is leading two key projects which are part of LAO’s modernization initiative, the Tariff Reform Project and the Lawyer Portal Redesign Project. LSP is also playing a key role in supporting the development and implementation of new rules and policies required under LASA 2020.

**Key accountabilities**:

- Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of new rules and policies implemented pursuant to LASA 2020
- Assist in the development of Legal Aid Online training and delivery of training to both LAO staff and panel lawyers
- Support tariff reform, including stakeholder consultations, and the development and costing of tariff reform proposals for presentation to LAO’s executive
- Assist in the implementation of approved tariff reforms and the development and delivery of training to LAO staff and panel members
- Updating the Tariff and Billing Handbook and the Disbursements Handbook
- Other duties as assigned

**Required skills & experience**:

- Lawyer in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
- Demonstrated knowledge of Lawyer Services and Payments processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of LASA 1998, O. Reg 106/99 and 107/99, LASA 2020, the Tariff and Billing Handbook, the Disbursements Handbook, and all Legal Aid Ontario lawyer payment policies, processes and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of Legal Aid Online and the employee portal. including both financial and CRM modules of PeopleSoft
- Proven ability to work under pressure to meet project timelines while being responsive to client needs
- Strong presentation, facilitation, consulting and relationship building skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and sound judgement for dealing with stakeholders
- Able to balance competing stakeholder interests and demands within financial constraints
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
- Attention to detail, excellent organizational abilities, as well as excellent verbal and written skills
- Self-Management, able to work independently, able to maintain composure and equilibrium, work effectively
- Word, Outlook, Excel, PeopleSoft proficiency

Preferred Skills and Experience- Experience managing financial and administrative functions with experience in financial analysis
- Understanding of LAO’s panel management processes
- District Area Office knowledge or experience
