**JOB DESCRIPTION**

The Corporation of the City of Orillia has an opening for the contract position of Summer Student in the Water and Wastewater Division of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department for approximately three months from approximately June 17th, 2024 to August 31st, 2024.

**DUTIES**
- Assistance with the maintenance and operation of the City’s Drinking Water and Wastewater Systems. This may include working at the Wastewater Treatment Centre, the Water Filtration Plant, the remote pumping stations (water and wastewater), or working in the distribution or collection systems. Assignment will depend on the staffing levels and needs of the division at the time.
- Conduct laboratory or field testing of water or wastewater for operational, compliance, or monitoring information. Collect samples and deliver them to various locations for further analysis.
- Provide assistance with the maintenance of the properties including lawn cutting, brush clearing, painting, cleaning, and disinfecting.
- May assist with programs such as hydrant flushing, valve operation, maintenance hole inspections, weekly water sampling, locates, and meter reading.
- Assist with the performance of manufacturer recommended maintenance requirements for treatment process equipment, including pumps, valves and machinery, monitor and document the performance of each piece of equipment to ensure reliable operation.
- Work in accordance of all City policies, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and Ministry of Labour guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Working towards a college diploma or university degree in related field.
- MECP OIT Certificates in Water Treatment, Water Distribution and Supply, Wastewater Treatment, and Wastewater Collection required for hiring.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and judgment skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- First aid, confined space and WHMIS training an asset.
- Possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- An acceptable Criminal Record Check is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense prior to the commencement date.
