Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Pediatric Surgery Clinics, this position functions as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Pediatric Surgery Clinics at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Orthopaedic Tech Certified utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide care to pediatric patients. Actively participates in program development and evaluation, and clinical teaching activities. Under a Physician's written or verbal order, the Orthopedic Technologist is responsible to carry out technical procedures: casting, splinting; removal of sutures, and stapes; wound care, and dressings. Assisting Physicians with procedures; and other related duties. Responsible for charting procedures performed on a patient in the patient’s record. Assists with general duties as required in the clinic. This position may require the incumbent to leave the Pediatric Surgery Clinic to assist on the ward or in the operating room as per departmental needs. Description:
As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Must be currently registered with CLPNA with a CLPNA recognized orthopedic training program. Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists (CSOT) certificate an asset Must be a currently Certified Ortho Technician Current BCLS-HCP required. Expertise in nursing practice, patient education, and planning / coordinating care. Demonstrated proficiency in the assessment, treatment and intervention of pediatric patients. Working knowledge of the medical and surgical conditions seen in the orthopedic clinic. Working knowledge of clean/sterile techniques, Infection and dressing changes related to wound care. Must have excellent customer service and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be an analytical thinker with strong problem solving skills Strong organizational skills with the capacity for self-direction and autonomous practice is required. The ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure with mínimal supervision, and ability to adapt quickly and balance numerous demands are desirable qualities and attendance and performance must be acceptable to the employer. Must be able to work effectively in a complex, high paced and noisy clinic environment.
