Construction Safety Nova Scotia is an industry founded and funded membership based not-for-profit association. We provide training and services with qualified, competent, and engaging safety professionals. We work with construction employers & employees, youth, and people throughout Nova Scotia helping them develop the knowledge, values, and skills needed for safer work practices. Together, construction workers and employers will make the Nova Scotia construction industry the safest in Canada.

**Overview**

Reporting to the Occupational Health & Safety Team Lead, the OHS Advisor's main role will be business development, training delivery, and conducting COR evaluations. In addition, the OHS Advisor will provide advisory services to CSNS membership and contribute toward the achievement of CSNS strategic goals and objectives through project and initiative work. This role will be based out of Sydney, Nova Scotia and travel as required within the province.
- **Education and Experience**_
- A community/business college certificate or trade certification plus a minimum of three years’ experience in the construction sector is preferred.
- Experience working at heights using appropriate Fall Protection equipment and processes and working in confined space is preferred.
- The OHS Advisor must have or be willing to pursue a recognized professional OH&S designation acceptable to Construction Safety Nova Scotia.
- **Skills and Abilities**_
- The ideal individual must be knowledgeable of Safety Acts and Regulations, possess excellent communication, organizational and time management skills, be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and the ability to conduct relevant research.
- Attention to detail is important.
- The individual must also exhibit a demonstrated desire to achieve professional standing as an OH&S service provider.
- **Specific Duties and Responsibilities**_
- Technical Expertise - Provides technical expertise to the Safety Services Division staff and Construction Safety Nova Scotia membership.
- COR Evaluations
- Participates in COR Evaluation activities as required.
- Training - Conducts training as required.
- Flexibility - Must be willing to take on various roles as required by the relevant Department Head, for the delivery of selected Construction Safety Nova Scotia Services.
- Construction Safety Nova Scotia services the entire province therefore travel is required and a valid driver’s license is mandatory
- Promotion of Services - Promote the value added services available to our members and construction stakeholders through one on one consultation and group presentations for business development.
- Youth Involvement/Promotion - Promotes value added support services and direction to youth focus groups and their respective organizations.
- Departmental Activities
- Participation in the Safety Services Division team for departmental initiatives.
- Specialty Consulting Services/Special Projects - Deliver specialty OH&S consulting services to members and construction stakeholders and complete special projects as determined by management.
- Seminar Presentations - Carries out speaking engagements relative to safety topics of interest and other areas of expertise at the direction of senior management.
- ISO Quality System: Applies policies, procedures and work instructions and participates in the continuous improvement efforts of the organization.
- Participates in quality planning
- Identifies and reports areas for improvement
- Responsible for isolating and/or reporting any non-conforming product or service in accordance with policies and procedures
- Knowledgeable of and consistently applies quality procedures relevant to position
