Assistant Videographer

Vancouver, Canada Jens Mowatt Videography & Photography Full time

Some requirements for the role:

- At least 2-3 years of videography experience in a professional capacity.
- Located in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and a professional attitude towards feedback from clients and those they work with.
- An ability to control one's emotions during stressful shoots (i.e. everything is going wrong during a wedding, but your outward display is one of calm and composure). It is important to me that my shooters have an ability to exude confidence and calm when the shoot becomes difficult.
- A sense of humour when things go wrong.
- At least one 10-bit full frame camera for video (i.e. an a7 SIII or FX-3).
- Ideally a backup camera for either photos, or for a second angle.
- A selection of lenses, including wide angles, something in the 50mm range, and a portrait or telephoto lens.
- 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses work, but I prefer my shooters to have faster primes as well (i.e. f/1.8 or faster).
- Extra batteries, memory cards, and a high-quality ND filter.
- An ability to see a good frame and be in the right place at the right time during fast-moving events.
- Experience manual focusing is an asset, as is experience manual focusing while using longer lenses.
- Knowledge of how to shoot and expose LOG profiles (i.e. SLOG-3).
- Attention to detail, a passion for creating beautiful imagery, and a drive to capture important and sentimental moments for clients.
- Experience with weddings is an asset, as is experience with large events (i.e. 200+ person conferences, engagement parties, etc.).

No editing would be required for this role. I would hire you as a second shooter, and the footage would be handed off to my editor. The person I end up hiring would be a self-employed contractor and not an employee.

Ideally my second shooter would have either a Sony a7 SIII, FX-3, or a7 IV. I would like to be able to share my lenses with a second shooter if possible, which is why preference will go to those who have invested in the Sony ecosystem. I would consider shooters with other brands, but the lack of an ability to share lenses with them would make things a bit more difficult (matching cameras would also be a challenge).

If you have other brands I would just require that you have all of the lenses and gear you require to do most jobs.

I have a job lined up for July 4th, with five videographers in total. I have yet to fill the last slot, so I would potentially hire someone for this day as a start if their portfolio and experience was a good fit.

If you believe your skills, experience, and gear are along the lines of what I'm looking for I would love to hear from you

Please include links to your portfolio when you apply, along with a gear list.

Best,

Jens Mowatt
