The Hotel Wolfe Island is a rural local and tourist waterfront destination that offers a boutique hotel experience with farm to table cuisine. The Hotel has a large main restaurant, a piano lounge for formal dining and intimate music venues, a waterfront patio and a cafe. Venues include live music weekly, retreats, occasional weddings and conferences, a weekly summer market, and other artistic experiences. The hotel has ten rooms, two apartments.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

As the Cafe Supervisor, you will be responsible to provide guests and customers with an exceptional cafe and hotel environment that is relaxed, efficient and clean while guiding a strong cafe team.

**STAFFING**

Implement and maintain a consistent staff schedule; fill in any vacant cafe position and assist staff during busy periods

Assist in training new staff and providing support to the barista team. Address staff concerns and provide guidance to ensure high performance and job satisfaction.

Foster a positive work environment and motivate team members. Promote teamwork and ensure that staff are engaged and focused on delivering great customer service.

**ADMINISTRATIVE**

Accurately handle and deposit daily cash and credit card transactions. Prepare financial reports and ensure proper documentation and reconciliation of transactions (NOTE: this is for both cafe and restaurant)

Monitor and manage inventory levels of food, beverages, and supplies. Conduct regular stock checks, order supplies as needed, and ensure proper storage and rotation of inventory.

**TECHNOLOGY**

Understand and be able to make small immediate changes within the POS system; understand the payment options and systems and make immediate fixes or sequester technical assistance as soon as possible.

Understand the hotel reservation and payment system.

**SERVICE**

Brew coffee, tea, and other specialty drinks to customer specifications. Operate espresso machines, grinders, and other café equipment with precision.

Contribute to a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Ensure that seating areas are tidy and that customers have a pleasant experience.

Ensure that customers receive exceptional service. Address customer feedback and resolve any issues or complaints in a professional and timely manner.

Keep the café area, equipment, and utensils clean and organized. Follow health and safety regulations to ensure a sanitary environment.

**KNOWLEDGE**

The entire process of coffee, including maintenance and programming of the machine, grinding methods, roasting, and coffee plant cultivation.

Technical knowledge of barista tools and techniques.

Recipes and key differences between various beverages.

The basics of different types of beans and roasts, different processing techniques, and how those will affect flavor.

The science of coffee-making, and how to use multiple brewing devices and machines.

Knowledge of wines and craft beers

Applicable laws, procedures, and policies specifically public health requirements

**LEGAL**

Report verbally and in writing any serious staff illness or injury immediately

Provide written report to manager on any incidents that relate to harassment, discrimination, deficient performance, illegal behaviour

**PERFORMANCE**

Strive to create high performance while maintaining overall excellence and hospitality throughout each day’s specific service periods

Maintain a high-quality functioning cafe

Monitor, coach, train staff on service standards

When required during short staff shifts or low volume business as determined and in consultation with management assume role of one or more of the following: cafe server, bartender, hotel administrator, housekeeper.

**COMMUNICATION**

Communicate daily or as required with Front of House Manager on areas of:

- Cleanliness
- Maintenance issues
- Supplies and inventory

Communicate as needed with front of cafe staff on schedule changes within a timely manner

Communicate with all team members on new legislation, policies, and procedures

Communicate with the General Manager at any time and in a timely manner any concerns, issues with ability to perform this position to a high standard.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS**
- Smart serve certification
- A minimum of 1 years experience barista
- Exceptional communication skills
- Knowledge of Point-of-Sale technologies
- Ability to work for extended periods standing up
- Knowledge of cafe equipment
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail

Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
