Ottawa, Canada Invert Full time

**The Company**

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time, and the team at Invert is building innovative tools that empower individuals and businesses alike to tackle the problem head on. We are a team of experienced start-up scalers that have taken ideas from a whiteboard to the New York Stock Exchange, all while maintaining a focus on a rewarding, award-winning team culture. At this early stage of Invert's growth, we're looking for talented people who are passionate about making a difference through their work.

Our company does two key things.

First, we invest in projects that result in carbon credits being created, such as planting a forest or building a machine that sucks CO2 from the air. By selling these credits on to individuals or businesses, we are able to generate revenue that lets us make more investments in projects that reduce or remove CO2, and we continue the cycle

Second, we are creating a place (more specifically, an app) where individuals can go to learn about what they can do themselves to address this giant problem of climate change. We want to help individuals understand their own impact on the world, and give them a chance to support carbon offset projects. We want every individual to be carbon neutral, and we want them to get there in an engaging manner with rich content and community.

**Place of Work**

We work virtually from London to Toronto to Melbourne, with a physical home base office in Ottawa, Canada. Our team meetings are held within EST working hours.

**Our Fit**

We’re strong believers that diversity, equity and inclusion are a key strength and integral to our future success. We want colleagues that can think differently, bring a range of experiences, are creative within their role, and know how to drive towards a team goal. We value both experience and expertise but emphasize capitalizing on the future potential of remarkable people. We’re looking for colleagues who want to take action on climate change and drive our society towards net zero emissions by 2050. We believe in working hard and in being flexible in how we get things done. We believe that working with good and kind people is as important as working with smart people. Our compensation model embodies rewards for performance and we believe everyone in the company should share in the upside of our success. In order to ensure this, we offer equity participation in addition to salary.

**The Opportunity**

Reporting to the Head of Carbon Acquisition, you will:

- Work with the team to identify, document, and promote technical best practices and methodologies for future new business design, internal learning, and external promotion.
- Technical evaluation and due diligence of new and existing carbon projects
- Work with the Carbon Acquisition team to develop core technical materials for the group
- Support in country-level technical execution of carbon projects
- Lead or co-lead capacity building initiatives with local communities
- Lead or co-lead inventory and biodiversity assessments
- Occasionally travel for work, including field work in remote locations

**The Experience we’re Looking For**
- Masters Degree in environmental science, natural resource management, forestry, ecosystem ecology, climate change strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with technical and/or operational issues related to biodiversity, private sector engagement, natural resource management (hydrology and forests), strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated technical innovation in climate change programming, strategic planning, and capacity development.
- Demonstrated project-level experience involving design, outreach, data collection, assessment and communication is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency or better with geographic information systems (GIS), database management, and environmental analysis.
- Professional proficiency or better in a language in addition to English strongly preferred.
- Basic understanding of carbon methodologies (Verra, Gold Standard, others)
