The Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration is a not-for-profit, charitable, anti-violence and social support agency promoting family safety and wellbeing within London’s diverse communities.
Our services at MRCSSI are grounded in our innovative Culturally Integrative Model, serving immigrants and refugee newcomers and their established communities. MRCSSI uses the culturally integrative model to work with clients within its two pillars, prevention and intervention. Thus, our services and responses are client-centered and shaped through a familyfocused, strength-based, and collaborative approach. Our work is informed by research and research strengthens and identifies needs and informs services.
The Centre for Culturally Integrative Responses (CCIR) is the research arm of MRCSSI. The focus of the CCIR work is to address gaps in policies and services with the development and implementation of evidence-informed and culturally-integrative family violence practices and responses in diverse cultural communities, including newcomer and immigrant communities.
Objective
The Project Assistant will be assigned to work on diverse research projects. The Research Assistant will assist the Principal Investigator and Research manager in a variety of research, administrative and non-administrative tasks which may include locating and preparing resources, facilities, equipment, materials for the research, research-related work and documentation, in support of the research activities. The Project Assistant will work under the supervision of the project manager who is responsible for providing ongoing feedback, support, and evaluation to the Assistant.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Follows and implements research ethics, standards, protocols, and best practices;
- Maintains field research confidentiality and integrity;
- Performs research work, literature reviews, implementation, data recruitment and collection, analysis, documentation, and reporting;
- Plans and modifies research techniques, procedures, tools, equipment or software management;
- Assists in planning, implementing, and maintaining data collection and contributes to data analysis according to the research protocol;
- Schedules, organizes, locates resources, and reports on the status of implementation of the diverse project activities;
- Plans and executes the day-to-day activities of implementing data collection;
- Prepares and verifies database/excel sheets accurately;
- Maintains records of research activities, and data entry;
- Perform all administrative work related to the projects;
- Assists in writing and edits materials for presentations and publications;
- Meets with the research manager on a regular basis to maintain ongoing communication and work status updates;
- Performs other related duties to the research as requested by the Principal Investigator and Research Manager; and,
- Maintain all social media platforms up-to-date.
Qualifications:
Education: A degree in Social Science programs
Other requirements: A minimum of one-year experience in research
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledgeable of immigrant and refugee populations coming from collectivist cultures;
- Excellent command of oral and written communication skills to discuss and document diverse projects progress;
- Ability to work independently and in teams accurately, and to problem solve technical and methodological issues that may arise during the course of the projects;
- Applies correct research techniques, methodology and logical critical thinking/analysis;
- Proficiency in creating infographic and slideshow presentations;
- Ability to meet deadlines in an organized and effective manner;
- Excellent command in administrative work, time-management, and organizational skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Proficiency in: using diverse social and digital media platforms; developing social media content, infographic; responding to comments; and maintaining up-to-date platforms;
- Excellent knowledge and execution of Microsoft Office and Canva software; and,
- Excellent knowledge of using qualitative and quantitative softwares (such as SPSS, Nvivo, MAXQDA) and usage survey softwares (such as Qualtrics and Survey Monkey).
