Posting Title- STO-RE 24R - Snow Survey Technology Specialist- Position Classification- Scientific/Tech Off R24 - Res- Union- GEU- Work Options- Hybrid- Location- Sidney, BC V8L 1W3 CA (Primary)- Salary Range- $73,855.42 - $84,134.34 annually- Close Date- 12/3/2023- Job Type- Regular Full Time- Temporary End Date- Ministry/Organization- BC Public Service -> Env & Climate Change Strategy- Ministry Branch / Division- Environmental Protection Division- Job SummaryReporting to the Snow Networks Specialist, the Snow Networks Technology Specialist leads the continuous technical enhancement of the Provincial Snow Weather Monitoring and Groundwater Observation Well Network.

This position ensures the day-to-day functionality of the provincial snow and climate monitoring networks. The Snow Survey Technology Specialist also manages and allocates the use and maintenance of sophisticated equipment for provincial monitoring locations (e.g., Remote Calibration Systems and Data Acquisition Systems).

**Job Requirements**:

- Combination of education and relevant experience:

- Technical Diploma in Environmental Monitoring, Meteorology, or related discipline and five (5) years directly related experience, or
- Bachelor’s Degree in Resource Management, Physical Geography, Climatology, Meteorology or related discipline and three (3) years directly related experience; or
- Master’s Degree in Resource Management, Physical Geography, Climatology, Meteorology or related discipline and one (1) year directly related experience; or
- Other relevant equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.
- Experience in environmental monitoring and reporting.
- Experience using snow survey, meteorological, or environmental monitoring technology.
- Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing meteorological monitoring networks and instrumentation.
- Experience establishing program and project objectives and priorities.
- Experience in evaluating snow monitoring and meteorological/climate technology and infrastructure to improve data delivery to our clients.
- Experience developing and documenting standards and procedures, and the validation, report writing and summarizing of snow and climate data.
- Experience developing and delivering training materials on operation and maintenance of monitoring technology.
- Experience in managing datasets, data entry and managing metadata.

- Must be willing to travel extensively across the Province.
- Travel and work on weekends may be required.
- Must be possess and maintain a valid B.C. driver’s license.
- Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC when working in field.
- Maintain physical fitness to be able to conduct field work which may include: travel to remote areas by vehicle, air, boat, snow machine, or foot; overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions; lifting and carrying over 50 pounds.
