Diamond Head Consulting, an award-winning environmental consulting firm based in Vancouver, is seeking a **GIS Analyst Intern** to join our team. The **GIS Analyst** **Intern** would support the ongoing development, administration, maintenance and improvement of Diamond Head’s GIS services, and support office and field staff working on a variety of arboriculture, biology, wildfire, and environmental planning projects.

We are currently working on numerous Urban Forest Strategies, Biodiversity Strategies, Community Wildfire Protection Plans, and development-related projects in Arboriculture. The **GIS Analyst** **Intern** will play a key role in the successful completion of all these projects and initiatives.

Day-to-day tasks include:

- Developing and maintaining geospatial layers
- Data processing and conversion
- Performing spatial analysis to inform decision-making
- Creating and managing field form design using ESRI’s Field Maps
- Map layout and design
- Generation of summary statistics
- Undertaking data compilation, modeling, and analysis, using GIS and other tools in order to produce maps, reports, dashboards, etc.
- Proposal writing and contributing to project cost estimates
- Creation of system and user documentation related to GIS

Specialist tasks required include:

- Canopy classification and cleaning using LiDAR and other remote-sensing products
- Application development and customization with scripting languages (i.e. Python, Arcade)
- Degree, certificate or diploma in GIS and a minimum of 1 year of experience; **or**:

- Post-graduate degree in GIS
- Extensive working knowledge of ESRI’s ArcGIS software suite, including ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps
- Field form design and use of ESRI’s Field Maps App and ArcGIS Online
- QGIS
- Remote Sensing
- AutoCAD
- Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop) for graphic design and document layout
- Hands-on experience managing and overseeing data conversion, cleaning and preparation.

We are looking for a proactive and collaborative team member, with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. The ability to independently problem-solve is essential.

You will gain invaluable experience in the GIS and environmental management realm due to the range of projects and initiatives ongoing, as well as the cutting-edge tools in GIS and remote sensing currently employed by DHC.

This is a full-time, temporary position, starting April 3, 2023, and ending September 1, 2023. There is a possibility of extension and/or this position becoming permanent after this period. **Wage starts at $25/hour.**
