Located in the heart of the Niagara Region - just minutes from one of the world’s most well-known tourism destinations - Niagara College offers more than 130 innovative programs between our campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Applications are invited for the regular position of part time Academic Advisor within Student Affairs at Niagara College located at the Daniel J. Patterson campus. The starting salary is $30.91/hr for a 24 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.
Reporting to the Director, Academic Advising & Career Services and working closely with Associate Deans, as well as advising team members across both campuses, the Academic Advisor provides services and support to Niagara College’s prospective students, applicants and new students.
**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Facilitate student appointments and workshops in person and virtually
- Leads differentiated college retention and student success initiatives
- Organizing and conducting targeted outreach to specific cohorts of students
- Collecting statistics, running reports and analyzing data in support of student retention initiatives
- Participating in transition and orientation programming and initiatives
- Actively involved with Ministry projects aligned with transition and retention initiatives and reporting
- Providing academic guidance and information to students via scheduled appointments, drop-in service, classroom and workshop presentations as requested
- Guides students through existing College information systems
**Qualifications**:
- Applicants must have a three (3) year diploma/degree in Business, Social Science, Humanities, Applied Health, Mathematics or Science, or a similar field of study
- A minimum of 5 years of practical experience providing academic advising support, guiding or teaching students or clients, preferably in a post-secondary educational or social service setting.
- Experience in advising theory and practice, as well as student & adult learning and development
- Excellent communication, analytical, presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, to problem-solve under pressure within a public environment while supporting a diverse student population, and to maintain a professional and invitational attitude at all times.
- Excellent computer skills, preferably in an MS Office environment, as well as the ability to organize and analyze data. Familiarity with Campus Labs software including Beacon and PeopleSoft will also be considered an asset
