JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Project Manager Community Helpers will be responsible to identify and assist potentially vulnerable persons to access services and programming offered through Manitoba Supports to meet their financial needs, and to build support systems in the community for greater inclusion. Helpers will assist with non-financial supports over the phone and in the community including Rural areas. Building access points, performing needs assessments and supportive planning, undertaking community outreach talks, leading presentations about social assistance for community members, conducting research as needed and providing supports during crisis.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Fluency in French is an asset.
- 1-3 years’ experience working with vulnerable populations experiencing homelessness or risk of homelessness, addictions, and mental health issues.
- Experience working with Manitobans with disabilities, including those who may require high levels of support.
- Effective written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to research and connect with various community resources to build access points, support systems and inclusion.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment adjusting to changing circumstances, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Positive attitude and empathy to build trust relationships and empower individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while providing regular progress updates to direct report.
- Ability to provide support that are; person centered, culturally sensitive and appropriate to individual’s needs.
- This position requires a valid driver’s license and own vehicle to be used during working hours.
- Provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Adult and Child Abuse Registry Check.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

**Community Helpers**
- Assistance contacting or connecting Manitoba Supports staff or other service providers on behalf of the client, as needed.
- Provision of support and referrals for Manitoba Supports clients to access other community resources, such as housing, food, mental health support, etc.
- Provide services with emphasis on person-centeredness, cultural sensitivity, and relevance.
- Mobile service delivery where appropriate, including outreach patrol, in locations where contact with clients is highly likely.
- Adept at building trust-based relationships and advocating for effective service connections.
- Knowledge and delivery of trauma-informed care.
- Complete daily and weekly reports for submission
- Provide immediate support and interventions in crisis situations.
- Communicate with project manager on relevant information in a timely manner to continue consistent support.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of relevant interactions with incumbents, assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

**Program Responsibilities**
- Participate in team meetings.
- Keep accurate records of interactions, services provided, and outcomes.
- Respect and maintain the privacy of the individuals assisted.
- Assist Project Manager with program assessment, providing feedback and other tasks as requested.
- Investigate and complete incident reports when required.
- Keep confidentiality as per Manitoba legislation and Sara Riel’s policies.
- Coordinate appointments, services, and referrals to ensure effective support is delivered.

**Other Duties**
- Provide all services in accordance with Sara Riel mission and values, policies, and procedures.
- Always represent self and agency in professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
