Tony’s Meats Ltd. is looking to hire a permanent Jr. Formulator.
Established in 1963, **Tony’s Meats Ltd**. is a privately owned federally registered, SQF and Halal certified company located in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada. Tony’s Meats produces and distributes an extensive selection of quality raw and fully cooked further processed meat products under the Tony’s Meats TM and Mr. Donair TM brands as well as many private label brands at both food service and retail establishments across Canada.
**POSITION: Jr. Formulator**
**DEPARTMENT**:Raw Processing
**REPORTS TO**:Production Supervisor and Production Manager
**HOURS**:5.00am to 1.30pm
**START DATE**: as soon as possible
**WAGE**: $16.50
Reporting to the Production Supervisor and Production Manager, the Junior Formulator is responsible for formulating recipes, as per company SOPs. He/she will also assist in new product development initiatives.
**Key Responsibilities**:
1. Execute daily Scheduled Activities for the formulation departments.
2. Unpacking raw, frozen meat for air and water tempering activities.
3. Complete Pre-Op Inspections
4. Handling raw meat and finished recipe mixtures (Beef, pork, lamb, poultry)
5. Operate required equipment (grinder, mixer, bowl cutter, stuffer, clipper, metal detector, saw, scales, computer use etc.)
6. Weighing ingredients
7. Load and unload smokehouses
8. Ensure that production activities are being executed according to customer specifications as well as the company’s written HACCP, and SQF programs.
9. Execute all activities safely and according to Occupational Health and Safety standards.
10. Communicate any maintenance issues immediately to Sr. Formulator and maintenance team
11. Report any issues resulting in downtime or productivity losses to the Production Manager
12. Participate in product research and development activities including working with the R & D Manager, Product Development Technician as well as Quality Assurance and Food Safety teams to develop and revise product formulations and specifications as well as generate test batches.
13. Recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality
14. Ensure paperwork is accurately and completely filled out
15. Cover key responsibilities of Sr. Formulator in their absence.
16. Assist with other production related activities as required and directed by the supervisor or management team
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum High School education
- Meat cutting experience an asset
- Experience in manufacturing environment, and, or production line an asset
- Basic math skills (Multiplication, Division)
- Own transportation
- **Physically fit (able to lift 50lbs repeatedly, able to push rolling racks weighing up to 800kg and move pallets weighing up to 1100kg using hand truck)**:
- **Climbing Stairs with weight carrying 50 pounds**:
- **Dump 50 pounds from shoulder heights**:
- **Stand for long periods of time**:
- **Willing and able to work in cold, damp conditions.**
