Night Janitor

Job description

**POSITIONACCOUNTABILITY & OBJECTIVES**:
Is responsible for the safety and security of the residence during the night and for responding to calls for assistance from residents.

Is responsible for common area cleaning and laundry, responding to any situation in the residence including janitorial and basic maintenance tasks as required (including plugged toilets, light bulbs, check fuses, jammed keys, help in elevator etc).

**BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS**:

- The incumbent must be a High School Graduate who has had some formal training in or prior proven experience in working professionally with senior clientele. Ability to maintain effective oral and written communications (in English) and have a positive self-image, nurturing excellent human relations with residents, families and other team members.
- Interest and knowledge in Building maintenance/security systems and procedures.
- Ability to respond to Emergency and Security System calls in a calm manner, and discern and prioritize need for assistance.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and be able to demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of WHMIS, First Aid and experience in some housekeeping and janitorial functions.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Performs duties with an acceptable standard of skill and with a sense of responsibility.
- Carries out housekeeping duties for all common areas as assigned and according to daily/weekly/monthly schedule.
- Launders dining room linens.
- Maintains the security of the building by conducting regular rounds.
- Handles all matters in a confidential manner.
- Studies floor plan layouts, fire manual and emergency plans.
- Assists Resident Attendant when called upon.
- Ensures that building, including parking garage is secure and that access is denied to unauthorized persons.
- Ensures effective team communication within the residence, logs any concerns re: resident behavior or incidents in the Communication book.
- Demonstrates evidence of outstanding public relations with residents.
- Committed to excellence and the establishing of a “Fabled Residence”.
- Performsother duties as assigned by the Team Leader.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Casual
Part-time hours: 15 per week

**Salary**: $18.49 per hour
