Tree Pruner

**Rate of Pay**: $30.54 per hour

**The start date will follow the selection process.**

**Characteristic Duties**:Under the supervision of a Foreperson, with the day-to-day direction of the Tree Warden.

1. Climb trees using ladders, safety ropes, belts and spurs.
2. Clear deadwood, remove overhanging branches, etc. using saws and pruners.
3. Treat damaged or diseased trees.
4. Secure split joints.
5. Spray trees with insecticides using sprayer.
6. Cut and remove roots and stumps manually and with motorized stumper.
7. Remove fallen trees from roads.
8. Plant and nurture trees.
9. Clean up job sites of all debris, load large branches into truck and feed smaller branches into chipper machine.
10. Sharpen saws, minor repairs and clean tools.
11. Operate and drive a bucket truck.
12. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
13. Perform other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
- Certification as an Arborist (444A) through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities is an asset.
- Three (3) years of related experience.
- Aerial Rescue training considered an asset.
- Must comply with applicable Provincial Standards and Acts.
- Be able to identify species of trees in order to prune correctly.
- Proven dependability to work without direct supervision in a team environment.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
- May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class “DZ” driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.
