**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director of Economic Development and working directly with the Economic Development and Research Officer, the Economic Development Summer Student is responsible for providing support to core economic development activities, including major projects and strategic planning, as well as business attraction, retention, and expansion activities through research, data analysis, communications and marketing.
- The Summer Student will also participate in other economic development activities, such as attending department meetings and events, where required.
- Responsibilities include:

- Project support
- Undertake research projects/initiatives relevant to departmental services and projects (e.g. Community Improvement Plan research and benchmarking).
- Assist in the development of the Department’s 5-year Economic Development plan. May include responsibilities such as data collection, outreach support, organizing consultation sessions, etc.
- Data Analysis
- Perform analysis on demographic, economic, building permit, invest and development data for internal use and to support responding to investment inquiries.
- Marketing & Communications Support
- Supports the development of content for use in marketing materials, Invest Oakville website and social media.
- Supports the Invest Oakville website migration project.
Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Applicants should have a university degree in a discipline relevant to the job function, such as Business, Economics, Economic Development, Commerce, Urban & Regional Planning, Marketing or Communications. Enrollment in a Masters Degree program in any of the above relevant disciplines would be considered an asset.
- Sound understanding of local economic development in Ontario and economic development in general
- Knowledge of GIS, graphic design, social media, and photo/video editing tools and software will be considered an asset.
- Excellent research and analysis skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Highly developed interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
