The branch’s mandate is to ensure that all department operations are inclusive of Indigenous perspectives and insights. Its key responsibilities include:

- Planning, developing, and implementing policies and procedures related to the Department’s relationships with Indigenous communities and groups.
- Planning, leading and directing the Department’s Crown-Indigenous consultation and engagement activities both within Manitoba and with Indigenous communities and groups outside the province, as required.
- Leading and supporting the building of relationships/partnerships with Indigenous peoples, groups, and communities to advance the goals of truth and reconciliation.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must have a valid Class 5F Driver's License
- Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba with occasional overnight stays as required

Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Post-secondary degree, preferably at the Master’s level, or equivalent in Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, Environmental Studies, or Natural Resource Management, with extensive knowledge and experience in Crown-Indigenous consultation and Indigenous relations. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in planning, developing, implementing and assessing policies, legislation and programs with Indigenous communities, organizations and peoples with a focus on cultural sensitivities of Manitoba's Indigenous peoples.
- Experience building relationships with Indigenous peoples, communities, and groups, and implementing the principles of truth and reconciliation.
- Proven ability as a leader with a commitment to create, support and sustain a diverse environment that enables staff to achieve results and to develop for the future
- Management experience with responsibility for human and financial resources.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change.
- Experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans, and experience with strategic performance management and measurement systems (e.g. Key Performance Indicators).
- Political acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to executive leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and financial management.
- Experience providing leadership and direction in the design and implementation of policies and programs.
- Superior analytical and research skills including the ability to synthesize and summarize information to provide advice and recommendations for executive leaders in making policy and program decisions.

**Duties**:
As a member of the department’s senior management team, the Director is responsible for leading and managing the Indigenous Consultation Branch and providing advice and support to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, and Minister in support of the department’s commitment to consultation, engagement, and reconciliation with indigenous communities and groups affected by departmental projects and programs.
