The Ivy Restaurant stands proudly on the shore of the St. Lawrence River halfway between Gananoque and Brockville along the scenic Thousand Islands Parkway. It is a large and elegant venue with both casual and refined dining options, along with an ice cream / bakeshop operation. We are currently hiring talented Prep Cooks for our busy summer season. Be part of a dynamic prep team working together to create the elements for our innovative lunch and dinner menus and learning new culinary techniques along the way. **On site accommodation opportunities available for a nominal fee.**

If you like kayaking, cycling, hiking, fishing and other outdoor activities, our region provides many opportunities for you to explore on your days off.

As a member of the prep team you would work closely with the daytime kitchen manager to ensure the restaurant is fully stocked and prepared for each meal service. The role of a prep cook is to learn and successfully execute our recipes and support our chefs and line cooks by ensuring we have the necessary ingredients for lunch and dinner service.

**Prep Cook Job Responsibilities**:

- Perform routine kitchen tasks.
- Follow the prep list created by chefs or line cooks.
- Label, date and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep.
- Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes.
- Undertake basic cooking duties, such as braising, reducing sauces, blanching, par cooking, etc.
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen to satisfy the requirements of the local Health Unit.
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques
- Organizational skills
- Adequate manual dexterity / knife skills
- Communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen

**Education and Experience Requirements**:

- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable
- Training from a culinary school is an asset
- Proven experience as a prep cook
- Basic food handling certificate preferred, or willingness to get certified

**Compensation**

Hourly wage commensurate with experience plus share of kitchen gratuity pool.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 25 per week
