Why is this role important?
- The Database Administrator works under the direction of the Manager, Enterprise Technology Services and is responsible for providing ongoing database maintenance and support as well contributing with technical expertise to CIHI projects.
- What you'll do
- 1. Provide technical expertise to developers:
- Ensure best practices for SQL coding are followed
- Perform code reviews proactively advising and coaching developers on following coding guidelines
- Work with technical leads, operations lead or project managers in planning database related initiatives
- Document and maintain information on processes and database related activities
- Assists with Data Warehouse and Data Mart development
- 3. Support CIHI’s Information Security Management System (ISMS) through the implementation, management and/or monitoring of required Information Security controls.
- 4. Participates in key ISMS processes as required, including but not limited to Risk Management, Audit and Assessment, Monitoring and Reporting and Record Management.
- 5. Act as liaison between the Enterprise Technology Services and its clients within ITPDS Development, Applications, and Operations; proactively responding to emerging needs.
- 6. Support and trouble shoot Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database environments on Windows and Linux Platforms. Ensuring environments are tuned and regularly maintained.
- 7. Manage, maintain and Monitor AWS EC2(DB) / RDS instances via AWS environments.
- 8. Participate in the definition, maintenance and implementation of security and access policies to ensure security of CIHI’s data holdings; participate in the planning, implementation, maintenance, and support of security controls.
- 9. Ensure databases are patched and hardened in accordance with CIHI’s standard procedures.
- 10. Maintain, test, develop and implement backup and recovery procedures for all CIHI’s databases on all platforms. Provide input to maintain and support disaster recovery strategy.- 12. Provide expert input on database design and security.
- 13. Participate on planning, implementation, maintenance, and support of security controls.
- 14. Provide advice in the selection of database tools and products. Participate in the development of overall database strategies.
- 15. Plan database related initiatives such as version upgrades including resource estimation and risk management information.
- 16. Identify inefficiencies in current databases and leverage solutions.
- 17. Maintain Database security auditing, Patching, Backup/Recovery.
- 18. Implement DevOps on Database maintenance tasks.
- What you'll bring to the table
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Solid knowledge of RDBMS architecture, Database backup/recovery, Security/Auditing, Integrity.
- Expertise in SQL.
- Minimum of five (5) years experience as a Database Administrator and at least 2 years experience on Oracle 19c database or above, MS SQL 2019.
- Expertise in Oracle RDBMS management and maintenance on Linux platform, AWS RDS.
- Expertise in MS SQL management and SSIS deployment on Windows and AWS.
- Experience on performance monitoring and database tuning, SQL/Code tuning.
- Hands on Unix shell and python script.
- Experience on MySQL, AWS RDS, Redshift.
