The Opportunity

The Topman is responsible for ensuring that materials are organized and ready for the pipe crew and works hand in hand with the Pipe Layer to ensure they have everything they need in order to lay pipe as efficiently as possible.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Work safely on a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to safety policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings
- Responsible for preparing the materials to ensure all pipe and any related materials are ready for installation for pipe layers
- Accurately measure cut and bevel a variety of pipes
- Following safety and quality procedures to direct equipment for placing bedding and backfilling of trenches
- Communicate with foreman and surveyor to ensure accurate installation of pipe and fittings
- Assemble fittings using wrenches and or sockets such as watermain, force main materials, water services etc.
- Work with the Foreman/ Surveyor ensure parts and materials are on site for following days work
- Maintain equipment and promptly report any maintenance issues.
- Train other employees and maintain quality results of work
- Support other crew members on daily site activities outside of job scope

Qualifications, Experience & Skillset
- Previous experience working as a Topman or experienced Labourer on a pipe crew
- Have knowledge of and be competent in the installation of a variety of pipe types and compositions
- First aid, confined space, and fall protection training is an asset
- Good communications ability, able to work with variety of individuals
- Must be physically fit, able to spend most or all of shift standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all types of weather
- Flexible with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed
- Willingness to learn and have a good work ethic
