The Hand Program at Toronto Western Hospital is an integral subset of the Arthritis Program at UHN, hosting a variety of health care services for all types of hand and wrist related injuries and conditions. This specialist program utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to care, integrating the knowledge and skill of surgeon specialists, orthopaedic technicians, hand therapists and clinical researchers to provide collaborative, world-class care and conduct impactful research. The Hand Program is seeking a Scientific Associate to work collaboratively with principal investigators to support and co-lead their research programs. Principle responsibilities include study design and development, identifying suitable grant opportunities, grant proposal writing, establishing high-integrity research data collection, data management, multi-site study coordination, faciliating study participant recruitment and coordinating remote and/or in-person participant follow-up. The individual should have knowledge in scientific methodology, statistics and use of statistical software (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, etc.), and is able to utilizte Microsoft Office and data collection platforms (i.e. REDCap) to collect and securely manage research data. Any previous research experience and publication in the area of orthopaedic surgery is highly valued. Strong attention to detail and diligence is critical to ensure full compliance with study protocols, adherence with institutional research policy, and excellent data quality standards. Excellent interpersonal skills is a necessity for coordinating research activities with clinical staff, as well as to interact with patients for study recruitment. General understanding of scientific methodology and research ethics (ICH-GCP, TCPS 2, etc.) is highly valued.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Perform literature reviews and stay abreast of current evidence in fields of upper extremity conditions (e.g. hand/wrist trauma, arthritis) and current treatment modalities. Deliver findings in semi-frequent presentations/meetings or larger conferences to investigators, clinical staff, research collaborators, and trainees.
- Develop novel research questions and establish scientific approaches with principal investigators to achieve research goals. Leveraging these novel ideas, identify suitable grant funding opportunities and develop competitive grant proposals for submission.
- Leading and supervising other research personnel and monitoring overall study progress to ensure collection of high quality data
- Coordinating final manuscript drafts and identifying appropriate journals for submission

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Completion of PhD in biological sciences
- Minimum 2+ years of previous research experience in a healthcare-related environment
- Strong scientific writing skills (manuscript preparation, grant writing, etc.) is critical
