To provide operational skills-based instruction to inmates in a correctional centre ensuring safety, care, security and custody of inmates during instructional sessions.

The Horticulture instructor trains and supervises residents and staff in the technical aspects of Horticulture and the safe use of all equipment, manages the landscaping needs at NCC by assessing, directing and managing a work crew while ensuring safety and security measures are maintained. The Horticulture instructor will be required to develop meaningful community relationships inclusive of providing certification opportunities and skills-based training assisting residents in attaining gainful employment. The Horticulture instructor may be required to work closely and partner with other Instructors at NCC in development of short and longer term projects.

**Job Requirements**:

- Experience in the use and repair of tools and equipment relevant to the program being instructed.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- English 12 with a final grade of 70% or equivalent.
- Valid Occupational First Aid (OFA 1) as endorsed by WorkSafe BC.
- Successful completion of the Correctional Officer Physical Abilities Test (COPAT). Successful completion of medical assessment.Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

- Two years’ experience as a Correctional Officer or equivalent.
- Experience in instructing adult learners and organizing the work of others.
- Horticulture technician certificate or diploma.
- Experience training greenhouse workers and landscape workers.
- Experience in an industrial or vocational setting.
- Experience with computer and communication technology.
- Experience in four season landscape maintenance and planning.
- Experience in commercial Greenhouse, planting, pruning, effective disease, pest control and harvesting schedules. Experience in commercial Greenhouse budget planning and ordering of supplies.Provisos /Willingness statements:

- Required to lift tools, and materials weighing up to 20 kg.
- Required to operate and teach the use of greenhouse and landscape equipment.
- Noise of lawn equipment, pressure washers, and other equipment relevant to the program being taught for 7 hours per day; PPEs are mandated and provided. Required to work outside of the facility in all four seasons.**About this Position**:
