Marketing Coordinator

Tourism New Westminster is an independent, not-for-profit Destination Marketing Association governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The organization is guided by recently developed 5 year strategic and 2 year marketing plans. Focus areas include: destination marketing, visitor servicing and destination development. **Position Summary**:
Tourism New Westminster is seeking a dynamic and experienced Marketing Coordinator to join our team. This individual will play a crucial role in promoting the city of New Westminster as a Tourism Destination. The Marketing Coordinator will collaborate with the Executive Director (ED) to implement marketing strategies and initiatives outlined in the marketing plan. This position requires a creative mindset, video production and editing skills, excellent written communication abilities, and a passion for tourism and destination marketing. This is a full-time position.
**Responsibilities**:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director (ED) to execute marketing strategies and initiatives outlined in the marketing plan, adapting them to meet the specific needs of the destination.
- Create engaging content for social media platforms, including Reels, Stories, TikToks, and content for other emerging channels, to attract and engage visitors, aligning with the overall marketing direction set by the ED.
- Design, produce, and edit videos that showcase the city's attractions, events, and tourism products, in line with the brand guidelines.
- Write compelling and informative posts that highlight local businesses, events, and attractions, following the brand messaging and tone of voice.
- Collaborate with tourism industry stakeholders and hospitality businesses to generate new content ideas and partnerships for social media campaigns, giveaways, and storytelling, working within the framework defined by the ED.
- Manage Tourism New Westminster's social media accounts, including frequent posting, monitoring and responding to comments and messages, following the guidelines and protocols.
- Promote and attend local events, setting up tourism booths and tents, servicing visitors, and creating content to capture the experience.
- Foster collaborations with other destinations, as well as Destination BC and Destination Canada.
- Stay updated on industry trends, digital marketing strategies, and emerging social media platforms to provide valuable insights and contribute to the overall marketing efforts.
- Prepare regular reports on social media performance, campaign effectiveness, and visitor engagement metrics to support the evaluation and decision-making process led by the ED.
- Other related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in marketing, preferably within the tourism industry, with a track record of successfully activating brands and engaging target audiences.
- Proficient in video production (cellphone and/or camera) and editing, with experience in creating compelling content for social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write engaging and persuasive copy for social media posts and other marketing materials.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, analytics, and best practices for growing and engaging audiences.
- Experience managing social media accounts and engaging with followers, including responding to comments and messages in a timely manner.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings (when needed), to attend events and capture content.
- Knowledge of the tourism industry and familiarity with the city of New Westminster and its attractions is an asset.
- Proactive, creative thinker with a demonstrated ability to generate innovative ideas and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Familiarity with destination marketing organizations and the ability to foster collaborations with industry partners.
